As of today, we have heard from all of the 4 elementary schools. We are now sending email back and forth, trying to figure out when are going to meet. At this point, we are still not sure which items we will be collecting, since each school does something different. We have been thinking about collecting brown paper bags, ink cartridges or batteries, since these are items that are usually not recycled. No matter what items we pick, we will still make a difference in our community. We are really hoping to get the students very excited and enthusiastic about our project. We are now brainstorming ways to come up with a fun incentive to get the kids to recycle, other than a competition. If you have any ideas, feel free to comment. We are always open to suggestions. And remember, RECYCLE for your community, our world and your future!

Just so you all know, we have made some changes to our project. We are still going to go to the schools and educate the 5th grade students about recycling and collect items, but we will not make it a competition. That way, students will not be recycling for the wrong reasons and they will get in a life-long habit of recycling.

We are getting closer to the day we go to the elementary schools! We have a lot of preparing to do. The good news is some of the schools are already involved in recycling, so they won’t be beginners on the subject. Hopefully, the students will get into our project and want to participate. We hope to have a great turnout!

You might be wondering…why are we getting kids involved in recycling as supposed to their parents? Well, the answer is, this generation is the future for our world. If kids today get in the habit of recycling, our world will be in much better shape when they are grown-ups than if they did not recycle. By making kids aware, they will be able to pass on the information to their parents and get their whole family into this habit. We are hoping to get a great turn-out with our project and get a lot of people involved. If you too are reading this, you should also get in the habit of recycling. It is much easier than you may think.

This blog is all about saving our environment. As you may or may not know, our Earth is being ruined. Not only is there global warming, but at this rate, in a couple decades we will run out of all non-renewable resources such as plastic and oil. In our middle school, we are working on a project to help get more people involved in recycling and saving our planet. For my group’s project, we decided to work with the 4 elementary schools. Our plan is to set up a recycling contest each month, with a different recylable item. The theory of this is to get people excited about recycling and more aware. Just because you don’t go to those 4 elementary schools doesn’t mean you can’t help. You should recycle everyday to try to conserve the resources on our planet. Remember, you can make a difference!
