Kickoff Time!
January 24th, 2007 by kkess33 in Our Project · No Comments
As of today, we have heard from all of the 4 elementary schools. We are now sending email back and forth, trying to figure out when are going to meet. At this point, we are still not sure which items we will be collecting, since each school does something different. We have been thinking about collecting brown paper bags, ink cartridges or batteries, since these are items that are usually not recycled. No matter what items we pick, we will still make a difference in our community. We are really hoping to get the students very excited and enthusiastic about our project. We are now brainstorming ways to come up with a fun incentive to get the kids to recycle, other than a competition. If you have any ideas, feel free to comment. We are always open to suggestions. And remember, RECYCLE for your community, our world and your future!
Just a few changes…
January 22nd, 2007 by kkess33 in Our Project · No Comments
Just so you all know, we have made some changes to our project. We are still going to go to the schools and educate the 5th grade students about recycling and collect items, but we will not make it a competition. That way, students will not be recycling for the wrong reasons and they will get in a life-long habit of recycling.
We are getting closer to the day we go to the elementary schools! We have a lot of preparing to do. The good news is some of the schools are already involved in recycling, so they won’t be beginners on the subject. Hopefully, the students will get into our project and want to participate. We hope to have a great turnout!
RECYCLE!

Here is a great video about recycling. Watch it, and I promise you will be motivated to recycle!
And think about this: you spent more time watching this video than it would have taken you to recycle! So, that should hopefully tell you something.
Why are we teaching kids about RECYCLING?
January 5th, 2007 by kkess33 in Our Project · No Comments
You might be wondering…why are we getting kids involved in recycling as supposed to their parents? Well, the answer is, this generation is the future for our world. If kids today get in the habit of recycling, our world will be in much better shape when they are grown-ups than if they did not recycle. By making kids aware, they will be able to pass on the information to their parents and get their whole family into this habit. We are hoping to get a great turn-out with our project and get a lot of people involved. If you too are reading this, you should also get in the habit of recycling. It is much easier than you may think.
How to Get Involved
December 20th, 2006 by kkess33 in Get Involved! · No Comments
It is very easy to get involved. All you need to do is make a good habit of recycling. You should start by recycling everyday household items such as magazines, newspapers, aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Another major problem with recycling is the packaging of many goods. Companies tend to over package their products and many people do not recycle the cardboard boxes items come in or the plastic materials. If you start recycling these items and get your friends, family and neighbors to do the same, you will be making a big difference. I do not know how many times I can stress this point, but PLEASE RECYCLE!

I inserted a video here that shows what will happen to the world if people do not start recycling and conserving natural resources. I hope you watch it and take into consideration what it is saying.
Why are we recyling?
December 18th, 2006 by kkess33 in Recycling · No Comments
You may be wondering…why are we making such a big effort to recycle? As I said before, on earth we are running out of natural resources. You may not be aware, but we waste so many materials everyday.
Over 55 million newspapers are sold every day. Think about how many people who buy the newspapers actually recycle them. There is also a group in those buyers who don’t even throw out the newspapers. These people littler them instead. From one tree, you can only make 8,333 pieces of paper. We are constantly cutting down tress without replanting them. One day, we will run out of trees. I know it may seem far off, but later you will be very sorry for not recycling.
This is only and example of one resource. There are so many other resources we ae constantly wasting such as aluminum, plastic, glass and many others. There are some habits that we may all have, but you may not realize the effect it is having on the rest of the world. I’m sure many of you are too lazy at times to recycle your water bottle or make the effort to recycle your pizza box. As I have said many times, today it may not seem like a big deal, but in the future it will be. So, PLEASE RECYCLE!

This blog is all about saving our environment. As you may or may not know, our Earth is being ruined. Not only is there global warming, but at this rate, in a couple decades we will run out of all non-renewable resources such as plastic and oil. In our middle school, we are working on a project to help get more people involved in recycling and saving our planet. For my group’s project, we decided to work with the 4 elementary schools. Our plan is to set up a recycling contest each month, with a different recylable item. The theory of this is to get people excited about recycling and more aware. Just because you don’t go to those 4 elementary schools doesn’t mean you can’t help. You should recycle everyday to try to conserve the resources on our planet. Remember, you can make a difference!
